A food-grade silicone tube conveys fluids that will be consumed by people, or that come into contact with food during processing, packaging or dispensing. It is not sufficient for the material to simply "be silicone": the formulation must be certified for food contact under the regulations of the target market, and the cure system determines whether the tube can transfer taste, odour or substances to the product being conveyed.

We manufacture food-grade tubing and hose in solid VMQ silicone with platinum catalysis (Series 12) as the preferred formulation. Platinum curing eliminates the reaction by-products generated by peroxide, resulting in a tube that is taste-free, odour-free and migration-free. For applications where contact is indirect or organoleptic requirements are less stringent, Series 2 (peroxide-cured) with FDA certification offers a more economical alternative. For installations subject to frequent CIP cleaning cycles or autoclave sterilisation, Series 14 retains its mechanical properties after hundreds of steam cycles.

Bore sizes from 0.5 mm to 145 mm, with wall thicknesses from 0.5 to 10 mm. Tolerances to ISO 3302-1 E1/E2. Smooth internal bore to minimise bacterial accumulation. Supplied on coils of 10, 25, 50 or 100 metres, or cut to length. Manufactured under ISO 9001 with full batch traceability and food-contact certificate of conformity.

Platinum-cured or peroxide-cured for food contact?

Both cure systems can achieve FDA and CE 1935/2004 certification. The difference lies in purity: platinum catalysis generates no reaction by-products, eliminating the risk of taste or odour transfer to the food. For direct contact with beverages, dairy products or liquid foods, platinum (Series 12) is the recommended choice. For air lines in packaging environments, cable protection in food-production areas or other applications without direct contact, peroxide (Series 2) provides the same regulatory compliance at lower cost.

Constructions

Food-grade tube types by construction

Plain single-layer tube

Plain single-layer tube

Circular cross-section with a homogeneous single-compound wall. This is the standard construction for conveying food-grade fluids at zero or low pressure (< 1 bar). Smooth bore, translucent or coloured according to line-identification requirements.

Textile-reinforced tube

Textile-reinforced tube

Food-grade silicone tube with braided polyester mesh reinforcement embedded between two silicone layers. The reinforcement increases working pressure without sacrificing flexibility. The inner layer retains food-contact certification; the mesh provides pressure resistance and prevents vacuum collapse.

Peristaltic pump tube

Peristaltic pump tube

Specific formulation (Series 30) optimised to withstand the cyclic deformation of peristaltic pumps. High flex-fatigue resistance and low permanent set after thousands of occlusion cycles. Certified FDA, USP Class VI and ISO 10993.

Co-extruded bicolour tube

Co-extruded bicolour tube

Two layers of food-grade silicone extruded simultaneously in different colours. The inner layer maintains certified food contact; the outer layer provides visual line identification according to the fluid being conveyed. Not to be confused with a painted tube: here both layers are integral silicone.

How we work

From compound to validated food-grade tube

Food-grade silicone tube extrusion follows a controlled process that ensures concentricity, uniform wall thickness and freedom from contamination.

1

Compound and tooling selection

Formulation determined by customer requirements (regulation, temperature, fluid, cleaning cycles). Selection of mandrel and die set for the required ID x wall thickness x OD combination. If no tooling exists, it is machined in steel with a lead time of 2-4 weeks.

2

Continuous extrusion with air-pressure control

The compound is fed into the extruder and passes through the crosshead where the tubular section is formed. Controlled air pressure maintains the bore diameter during curing. The tube passes through a continuous vulcanisation oven at the temperature and line speed programmed for the formulation.

3

Dimensional inspection and post-cure

Measurement of inside diameter, outside diameter and concentricity. Tolerances to ISO 3302-1 class E1/E2. Peroxide formulations (Series 2, Series 14) undergo post-cure in an oven. Platinum formulations (Series 12, Series 10) require no post-cure, reducing lead time.

4

Cutting, coiling and documentation

Cut to length or coiled to order. Packed in PE bags. Each coil identified with batch number, formulation, dimensions and certification. Food-contact certificate of conformity issued with full traceability.
